Kentucky State University's Highest Priority

Dear Parents and Families,

The safety and well-being of your student and the entire Kentucky State University community is our highest priority. In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, an incident occurred near Young Hall in which shots were fired by an unknown individual. Thankfully, no KSU students or employees were injured. No residence hall room was struck. The Frankfort Police Department is leading the investigation, and our KSU Police Officers responded immediately to secure the area and support those affected.

As we begin Welcome Week, please be assured that Kentucky State University has taken proactive steps to enhance campus security. Additional police officers and security personnel will be on patrol throughout the week and beyond to help ensure a safe environment, and ongoing security improvements are being implemented to further strengthen safety across campus.

We ask for your partnership in encouraging your student to remain vigilant. If they see or hear anything concerning, they should report it immediately to KSU Police by calling 502-597-6878 or dialing 911 in an emergency.

To help keep you informed, Kentucky State University offers BRED Alerts, our emergency text messaging system that provides timely safety notifications.
