KYSU President Dr. Akakpo Highlights Community Support in Frankfort Kiwanis Club Speech

Kentucky State University (KYSU) President, Dr. Akakpo, addressed members of the Frankfort Kiwanis Club (FKC) on Thursday, April 4, 2024, emphasizing the university's dedication to serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Dr. Akakpo highlighted KYSU's prompt response to aid individuals and families affected by floods of 2021 in Western, KY and 2022 in Eastern, KY.

FKC members enjoyed lunch before hearing from FKC President, Tim Reynolds, who gave the welcoming. Followed by President Elect, Sonia Sanders, who introduced President Akakpo. 

"It was enlightening and a pleasure to have Dr. Akakpo attend our Kiwanis meeting. Frankfort Kiwanis is an intrical supporting partner of KYSU's Circle K International (CKI) on campus with 55+ members and its students volunteers," stated Sanders.

During President Akakpo's speech, he acknowledged the lack of recognition for KYSU's quick response and efforts. He emphasized the need to tell KYSU's story and shed light on its contributions to the community.

"Kentucky State University was one of the first to respond with disaster relief in 2021 in Western, KY with enough manpower to help families. Then again in 2022 in Eastern, KY ," said President Akakpo. "No one knows about this, if you google KYSU, you won't see one article. KYSU was on the ground when the need of the Commonwealth was at the highest. Since then, we have increased our mobile response team and educational resources."

President Akakpo's dedication to strengthening connections within both Kentucky and the local commnunity reflects his commitment to KYSU. Dr. Akakpo's exceptional leadership skills serve as a reminder of the Thorobred spirit!
