Charles Trumbo ’80 will be one of 24 former athletes inducted into the 2022 Lexington African American Sports Hall of Fame, Inc. (LAASHOF, Inc.) this Saturday. The former Kentucky State University football player says he is honored to be recognized by the non-profit organization.

“It is indeed an honor to be recognized and inducted into this hall of fame,” Trumbo expressed. “I truly enjoyed my days playing football and to be acknowledged for doing what I loved is a moment that will live with me forever.”

Trumbo was a multi-sport athlete at Bourbon County High School in Paris, Kentucky before arriving at Kentucky State in 1965. During his days on the Hill, he also participated in intramural track and basketball.

A true Thorobred, Trumbo appreciates his alma mater and the opportunities afforded to him because of Kentucky State.

“Kentucky State gave me an opportunity to continue my education and play football. I love this university; I will love it until the day I die.”

LAASHOF, Inc. recognizes local African American sports heroes. The inaugural gala and induction ceremony will take place Saturday, September 24 at the Central Bank Center.
