Two Kentucky State University students win awards at KAS annual meeting


Two Kentucky State University students recently won awards at the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) 2021 annual meeting. The meeting occurred virtually, with more than 400 scientists and more than 130 students participating from Kentucky colleges and universities in the research competitions. 

Jocelyn Marables was awarded second place in health sciences for “Determination of Antibiotic Resistance in Probiotics Isolated from Commercially Available Probiotic Supplements”. Joshua Maddox was awarded third place in agricultural sciences for “Small Unmanned Aerial Systems for Long-term Monitoring of Livestock Rotation Plots at Kentucky State University”. 

The Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) held its 2021 Annual Meeting virtually, on November 5&6. More than 400 scientists and students registered for the 2021 Annual meeting, and more than 130 students from Kentucky colleges and universities participated in the research competitions. 

Two Kentucky State University faculty joined the KAS governing board. Dr. Noel Novelo is the incoming vice-president in 2022, while Dr. Scott Wicker is an incoming at-large representative.
