Kentucky State University professor received National Endowment for the Humanities grant
A Kentucky State University professor recently received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, an independent federal agency and one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States.
Dr. Mary Barr, assistant professor of sociology, received the grant for the 2020-21 academic year.
“I will use the award to complete my second book titled “Privilege and Protest: The 1965 North Shore Summer Project for Equal Housing in Chicago’s Exclusive Suburbs,” which examines residential segregation and the struggle for open housing on Chicago’s affluent North Shore from 1853 to the present,” Barr said.
Barr said the funding cycle was highly competitive, with only 11 percent of its fellowship proposals receiving funding.
“Mine was one of three granted in the commonwealth and I am thrilled that Kentucky State University is represented in this esteemed group,” Barr said.
