A Kentucky State University professor was recently selected to present a teaching idea at the World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC) in Paris.

Dr. David Shabazz, an associate professor of journalism, was one of 12 journalism professors among colleges and universities from different countries selected to participate as Ignite Laureates.

Shabazz presented the “7-Word Visual Story,” which is a teaching idea designed to help students write, shoot and edit multimedia stories for web or print.

“It’s a holistic exercise where students are allowed to express their creativity while learning the fundamentals of producing an effective video package,” Shabazz said.

Shabazz also collaborated with other journalism professors to develop a list of best practices for assessing the effectiveness of journalism programs internationally.

According to the WJEC website, every three years, the international community of journalism education get together to share their best teaching practices and to listen to top-notch research papers, all dedicated to journalism education.
