The Kentucky State University women’s basketball team is on a Cinderella run through the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, culminating in a trip to the championship game today at 5 p.m. EST in Birmingham, Alabama at Bill Harris Arena.

Defense was the cornerstone of Kentucky State’s 46-40 overtime victory over top-seeded Tuskegee Friday.

Kentucky State also pulled off an upset in the quarterfinal round, defeating second-seeded Albany State 46-44.

Upsets have been the common thread of Kentucky State’s run through the tournament, as they knocked off third-seed Miles College with a 49-48 victory in the opening round.
