A Kentucky State University graduating senior found comfort on the hill during her undergraduate career.

Kia Arnell Brooks, a criminal justice major from Louisville, said she chose Kentucky State because she wanted to experience an HBCU, but not too far away from home.

“I’m a very family-oriented person and this fit me because it’s a university close to home,” Brooks said.

Brooks was a member of the cheerleading squad for three years.

“My best memories here were cheerleading and traveling to many places I’ve never been, making lifelong friends and unforgettable memories,” Brooks said.

Brooks said her best advice to current students is to never give up.

“No matter how many obstacles are thrown in your way, push through and stay hungry,” Brooks said. “Knowledge is power and the degree is the goal.”

Brooks plans to pursue a master’s degree while entering the task force of the Louisville metro police department.
