Students, faculty, staff, alumni and special guests gathered for the 90th coronation of Mister and Miss Kentucky State University in the William Exum Center Oct. 11.

Blake Nichaé Scott, the 90th Miss Kentucky State University, said she spent the majority of high school feeling like she didn’t fit in. Not at Kentucky State, she said. Previously, Scott said, she never felt beautiful. Not at Kentucky State.

“I see my beauty and my potential,” Scott said. “I have the confidence to make it through the real world after graduation.”

Scott’s achievements at Kentucky State include being elected Miss Freshman 2016, Miss Alpha Upsilon 2017, being a member of the executive board for the Honors Collegiate and the newly elected president of the Circle K international community service organization, as well as being named Bred of the Year in 2016.

“I want to thank my mother, who sacrificed so I can have the things she wasn’t able to,” Michael N. Weaver Jr., Mister Kentucky State, said. “We didn’t have anything, but you made it seem like we had everything.”

Weaver’s campus involvement and achievements include Mister Freshman, Sophomore Class President, Executive First Vice President, Student Government Association President and Student Regent.

Scott is a senior business administration major from Indianapolis, Indiana. She majors in business administration. Weaver is a senior from Kansas City, Missouri by way of St. Louis, Missouri. He majors in music education and political science.
