The Kentucky State University women’s volleyball team was recently recognized by the Kentucky General Assembly for its third Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) tournament championship.

Kentucky State Senator Julian M. Carroll presented a resolution recognizing the team, head coach Katrina English, who was named coach of the year by the SIAC, and three members of the team who earned spots on the All-Tournament team.

Those named on the All-Tournament team were outside hitter Hannah Smyers, Gabriella Garcia, who was also named top liberio in the SIAC, and Jaylynn Roberts, who was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Kentucky State’s roster included Arlandria Greathouse, Makayla Martin, Diarra McClendon, Brooke Moore, Spenser Parks, Amanda Moore, Robin Poole and Cierra Couch.

“Being selected as a member of the SIAC Conference All-Tournament team is such a prestigious award,” English said.  “I am happy that three members of the team received this honor and I know it was well deserved.  I am very proud of my players for representing Kentucky State with such high character and work ethic.”

The SIAC volleyball championship was held November 17 in Birmingham, Alabama, where Kentucky State defeated LeMoyne Owen College.

“It was a delight to receive such a welcome and recognition from the Capital and Senator Carroll,” English said. “The ladies had a great season. Their hard work paid off and I couldn’t be happier. I am excited about their growth and look forward to future accomplishments.”
