Kentucky State University students honored during Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

Two Kentucky State University students were honored, and one incoming student recently received the Martin Luther King Jr. scholarship during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in Lexington.

Alaria Len Long is a Holmes High School senior from Covington with a 4.2 weighted GPA. She also holds the 800-meter dash record at her high school. Long plans to run track and major in nursing at Kentucky State. Her father is a Kentucky State alumnus.

Past recipients Victoria Poole and Lizbeth Perez were honored during the event. Poole is a nursing major, while Perez is a social work major. Both are from Lexington.

The keynote speaker for the event was American anti-racism activist and writer, Tim Wise. Wise is recognized by Utne Reader as one of 25 visionaries who are changing the world.
