The Kentucky State University volleyball team’s bid fell short to win a conference championship for the third consecutive year and fifth in sixth years, but the Thorobrettes didn’t go down without a fight to the red-hot Spring Hill University squad.

Kentucky State opened the championship round by winning the first set against Spring Hill, something no other Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) team had done all season. Spring Hill entered the matchup ranked ninth in the South region and riding a 27-match win streak.

Kentucky State concludes the season with a 23-22 overall record under new coach DiShondra Goree. The Thorobrettes were 14-3 in conference play. The loss was the final match for seniors Arlandria Greathouse, Cierra Couch and Brooke Moore.

The Thorobrettes beat Paine College and Albany State to advance to the finals.

Kentucky State University has won six SIAC volleyball championships within the last nine seasons.
