Kentucky State University announces Homecoming 2017

FRANKFORT — There’s no place like Kentucky State University. And Homecoming 2017 will be more than just a celebration. It is a week of extreme excitement uniting students and organizations, Frankfort and the Kentucky State family, showcasing our Thorobred pride and spirit.  

Mark your calendars this year for Homecoming, which starts Monday, Oct. 16 and concludes Sunday, Oct. 22. It is a great time to be a Thorobred. Come one, come all. We will celebrate our traditions and everything that is new including our bright future. Brace yourself for an experience like no other!

Events officially kick off Monday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. in Bell Gym with the Homecoming Fashion Show. Get a sneak peek of the latest fashion trends for 2017. The Student Government Association Inauguration takes place in the Student Center Ballroom Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. At 6 p.m., the Kentucky State University volleyball team plays arch-rival Central State University in the William Exum Center. The Student Government Association hosts the SGA Cabaret at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

Wednesday, Oct. 18 has a little something for everyone. The Campus Block Party in the Student Center Courtyard begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. Claim your seat in the Amphitheater early, as the Homecoming Pep Rally and The Choice is Yours game show starts at 6 p.m. Are you ready to laugh the night away? Make your way to Bradford Hall for the annual Homecoming Comedy Show; first comic takes the stage at 8 p.m.

The Atwood Symposium: Future of Black Colleges is scheduled for 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. in Little Bradford Thursday, Oct. 19. Black colleges have existed for more than 150 years. Will they be here in the next 100 years? Esteemed scholars will share their research and expertise and insights on the matter. For a night of elegance, join us in the William Exum Center at 7 p.m. for the Mr. and Miss KSU Coronation and reception.

We will officially install Dr. M. Christopher Brown II as our 18th president at the Founders Day Convocation and Investiture Ceremony Friday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. in Bradford Hall. Vendors will flood the Student Center Courtyard for the annual Street Fest, starting at noon. The Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet will honor Thorobreds in the Student Center Ballroom at 6 p.m. Greeks will stomp the yard at 8 p.m. in the William Exum Center during the annual NPHC Step Show. The official step show afterparty begins at 11 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

The annual Homecoming parade is set for Saturday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. The route begins at Kentucky State University and travels throughout downtown Frankfort, ending at River Park. The parade will include floats built by student organizations and others, Mr. and Miss Kentucky State University, area high school bands and the Thorobred Marching Band. The Homecoming football contest between Kentucky State and Tuskegee kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. Arrive early to enjoy the atmosphere. The Homecoming Concert at the Frankfort Convention Center starts at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Stay tuned for artist announcement.
