The Division of Fine Arts presents “The Rhythm In My Soul” dance recital at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10 at Bradford Auditorium. The recital will feature the new Introduction to Dance class and students from the Mighty Marching Thorobreds auxiliary teams.

Introduction to Dance is one of the recently added electives at Kentucky State University (KSU). All Division of Fine Arts’ departments such as Music, Arts, Vocal, Theater, and Dance are all required to present a concert or recital to the University community at the end of the semester.

The audience can expect a variety of styles to be performed by KSU students.  Each piece was choreographed by Auxiliary Coordinator Churi Level and students Alia Gold, Sydney Hart, Jeriah Thomas, Dominique Simmons, Carley Mitchell, Destiny Legette, and Daryl Henderson-McKnight. Every dance will have a meaning or interpretation.

The main pieces of the show will be performed by members of the auxiliary teams of the Mighty Marching Thorobreds.

“Many of them have experience in modern dance and contemporary dance which allowed us to be able to create some unique movements,” Level said.  The finale will be a Lindy Hop & Swing accompanied by the song “Sing, Sing, Sing” by Benny Goodman.

In addition to the Introduction to Dance class, which meets weekly from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the auxiliary members have practiced for two hours a day, five days a week to make sure they present a stellar performance.

“Dance is a spirit that moves in all of us, and some people are able to share the feeling outside of the body to draw an audience in and to experience the beauty and the movement with them,” Level said. “It is our hope and goal that we captivate the audience and share the wonderful experience.”
