The Kentucky State University Concert Choir is celebrating the holiday spirit with community partners Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. at South Frankfort Presbyterian Church (SFPC).

This marks the second year of the partnership. A special addition to the concert is the debut of the South Frankfort Community Chorus, a group of local youth who trained with Dr. Keith McCutchen, director of the Kentucky State concert choir, specifically for this concert.

“I’m very excited to reunite with our friends at South Frankfort Presbyterian Church to present this year’s Christmas concert,” McCutchen said.

McCutchen said the students will sing with the Kentucky State concert choir on several selections from Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols.”

“They will also join us on selections from my Gospel Christmas book, including two settings of the classic, ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain,’ and an original composition based on Isaiah 40:1 entitled ‘Comfort Ye,’” McCutchen said.

The group of students includes several children of Kentucky State faculty and staff.

The concert will also include Kentucky State voice faculty, Dr. Caroline G Gibson, singing “Oh Holy Night” and her conducting debut of the Kentucky State chamber singers.

The concert is free and open to the public and will be followed by light refreshments in the Fellowship Hall. SFPC is located at 224 Steele Street in Frankfort.
