Kentucky State University senior has her future in focus

Kentucky State University graduating senior Morgan Honeycutt is busy producing a bright future, with her goals in focus.

The Georgetown mass communications major graduates in December and is currently busy finishing her academic work and interning at WTVQ in Lexington. She started her internship at the ABC-affiliate news station in August and has honed in on her future ever since.

“I have always loved everything about televisions and news,” Morgan said. “Since middle school I’ve always wanted to work in the industry. I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do until my freshman year at Kentucky State.”

Morgan serves as a camera operator for Good Morning, Good Day and Midday Kentucky. During that time and through her experiences at the Georgetown News-Graphic and Elite Fitness Frankfort, she’s learned valuable lessons.

“I have learned that getting your foot in the door and getting all the information and knowledge you can in your industry is the most important thing,” Morgan said. “Also, work as hard as you can to prove to the company you’re working for that they won’t regret it if they hire you after your internship is over. Be the best you that you can be!”

Morgan speaks from experience, as WTVQ offered her a job after graduation. She would join her friend, Jade Stone, a KSU alumna, who also works at the news station.

As her immediate future comes into focus, Honeycutt also has her sights set on long-term goals.

“I love being a production tech/camera operator. However, my goal is to be a sports producer,” she said. “I plan on applying to the Carolina Panthers or the Cleveland Cavaliers to be part of their communication department.”

Morgan joins the rest of the graduating seniors Dec. 16 during Fall Commencement in David H. Bradford Hall on Kentucky State University’s campus.
