
KSU spotlights banjo player David Hurt in performance lecture
Banjo player David Hurt will present a lecture recital at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at the Little Bradford Theater at Kentucky State University. Hurt is part of the KSU School of Music’s lecture recital series that occur every Thursday. The series is free and open to the public.
Hurt is a retired farmer with roots in the eastern Kentucky mountains. He received an apprentice grant from the Kentucky Historical Society to research Kentucky banjo players and playing styles.
Hurt performs a one-man play about Grandpa Jones the vaudeville comic and banjo player of the 1930s. The musician has acted in Louisville and Lexington theaters and taught theater and speech at Morehead State University.
