Volleyball advances to the SIAC Tournament Championship

Birmingham, Ala.—Kentucky State University volleyball defeated Claflin University 3-1 on Thursday afternoon to advance to the finals of the SIAC Championship Tournament.
The Thorobrettes (21-16, 13-4) will play in the championship game for the fourth straight season and will look to notch their third conference title over the four-year stretch.

The Panthers jumped out to an early match lead, taking the first set 25-20. KSU fought back claiming the second set 25-16 to pull the match even. Trailing 23-20 in the third set, KSU went on a 6-1 run as the Panthers registered three errors, while senior outside hitter Tahje Ochs and senior middle blocker Kirtrice Ploucha each notched an ace apiece.

KSU closed out the fourth and final frame to win the match, 25-21.

Sophomore middle blocker Payton Richardson slammed a team-high 16 kills on 32 attacks. Senior setter Anjelique Kyle assisted on 37 of the teams 48 assists, and senior libero Micah Rogers accounted for a team-high 21 digs.

Ochs recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 11 digs and 10 kills.

The Thorobrettes will wait and see who their next opponent will be as CU will take on the winner of the losers bracket. The championship game is slated for 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday.
