KSU Announces Gordon Rowe Jr. As University General Counsel

Gordon A. Rowe Jr. has been appointed as Kentucky State University’s General Counsel. He assumes the duties and the responsibilities of his position on July 13, 2015.

“I have known Gordon for some time, and have been impressed by his work ethic, his knowledge of law and his overall approach to proactively getting things accomplished. I am confident that he will be a great fit here at Kentucky State University,” said KSU President Raymond M. Burse.

Rowe is an accomplished attorney with more than 18 years of professional experience. He has advised and advocated on behalf of small and large businesses and organizations in a wide variety of practice areas, including employment law, bankruptcy, workout/restructuring, creditors’ rights and commercial litigation. He has diligently and successfully litigated cases from the trial level through the appellate level. He has proven to have the ability to successfully reorganize, restructure and lead organizations in crisis situations through sound advice, thorough business planning, innovative strategies and astute negotiation.

He founded his own law practice in Louisville, Ky., in 2002. His current practice is focused on representation of small business entities. He serves as outside general counsel to many of these entities and primarily handles their employment matters from litigation to employment handbooks, as well as contract negotiation and drafting and workout/restructuring plans.

“I am very interested in helping to develop higher education opportunities in the state, especially for African-Americans. President Burse has always been a role model and I am looking forward to working for him.” Rowe said.

Rowe’s professional experience also includes Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Panel Trustee, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Western District of Kentucky, and Senior Attorney, Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP.

Rowe received his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law and his bachelor’s in economics from Virginia Tech.

He has been an officer and member of several professional organizations. He has served as a chair of the Louisville Bar Association Bankruptcy Section, and as a member of the Bar Association’s Diversity Committee. He is a Louisville National Bar Association past president.

Rowe is admitted to all Kentucky state courts, United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
