The honor is the first for Coleman, who led the Thorobrettes to an SIAC championship in 2013 and to the conference championship match last season.

“This is an awesome accomplishment for me,” said Coleman. “I am very thankful and humbled. I work extremely hard for my team and my school. It feels great to be recognized.”

Coleman has led her team to a 21-12 overall record this season, and the Thorobrettes won their first 14 conference games before finishing with the 19-1 SIAC mark. In four seasons as Kentucky State’s head coach, she holds a 61-8 record in conference games.

After finishing as runners-up a year ago, Coleman and her team begin their quest for the conference championship when they open play in the SIAC Tournament on Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala. The Thorobrettes take on Benedict at 4 p.m. Central Time in the opening round of the double elimination tournament, which continues through Friday.
