Louie Rivers Jr., Small Farmer Outreach Training and Technical Assistance Program project manager, received the Thomas Poe Cooper Distinguished Farm Leadership Award on Oct. 19. Presented by the University of Kentucky chapter of the Honor Society of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Thomas Poe Cooper Award is the highest honor given by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

Dean Dr. Nancy Cox recommended and selected Rivers as this year’s recipient. Rivers is the only Kentucky State University professional to have received this distinguished award.

With nearly 40 years as dean, Dr. Thomas Poe Cooper was the longest tenured dean of the UK College of Agriculture and was well loved throughout the state.
