Each year the Kentucky State University (KSU) Marching Thorobred Band convenes its annual Band Camp the first two weeks of August. Band members are required to report to camp on the first full day. No member is exempt. The primary purpose of the Band Camp is to provide physical training exercises and introduce marching band repertoire for the upcoming marching band season.
The training exercises consist of marching fundamentals, calisthenics and various body condition exercises. A placement audition is administered the first full day of camp. The audition includes scales and selected music for the approaching fall season. All students are sent a music package prior to their arrival for Band Camp to help them prepare for the placement audition.
The KSU Marching Thorobred Band, along with other university performing organizations, serves as ambassadors for the university. In this capacity the Marching Band participates in parades, special performances as demanded, and competes in band competitions in Kentucky and surrounding states.
