Under the Direction of Dr. Carl Smith, Professor of Music Emeritus, the Kentucky State University Concert Choir is one of the foremost ambassadors for the University. Composed of undergraduates from all academic areas of the university, the Choir is a well-rounded, diverse organization that upholds the highest standards in performance as well as academics.
The choir tours annually throughout the United States and has performed with several major orchestras. Frequently the choir appears at Music workshops, seminars and professional conventions including the Southern and National Divisions of the American Choral Directors Associations, and the Music Educators National Convention. The choir also participates in several choral competitions and most recently received the top rating in the HBCU competition
AExtravaganza in Black@ held in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are also past winners of the Annual Spiritual Competition held in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Several recordings of the choir have been made over the years. The last recording, in 1996, featured various favorite selections of past and present Concert Choir members. The choir has planned another recording in which more favorite selections and new works will be included. For additional information please contact Concert Choir Director Dr. Carl Smith 502-597-6597.
