Name: Calysta Little-Prather

Hometown: East-Cleveland, Ohio

Classification: Junior

Major: Criminal Justice

Minor: Behavioral Social Studies

Why Kentucky State? I visited the campus in 2015 for homecoming. I remember feeling like it was my second home. The Kentucky State University Cleveland Alumni Chapter also played a role in my decision; they were very supportive.

What is your major and why did you choose this area of study? I chose criminal justice because of an incident that affected my family when I was 9 years old. Since then, I have developed a passion for the field of criminal justice and want to help correct the injustice that is brought upon people everyday.

Who inspires you and why? The one who inspires me the most is my older sister. Although 10 years a part, we both have the same story – raised in two different households with a very rocky relationship with our father. However, our story of trials and triumphs go deeper than just that. She showed me that you can persevere through anything. She is an attorney and travels the world.

What do you plan to do when you graduate? After I graduate, I plan to either work in public safety or go to graduate school to continue my education, receiving a master’s in psychology.

Words to live by: “Aspire to become a part of something bigger than yourself. To inspire others that there are no limitations in life.” – Calysta Little-Prather
