Sociology
The Sociology program at Kentucky State University features the scientific study of societies and social structures, and examines the behavior of large and small groups in various contexts and seeks improved understanding of the principles and dynamics of human relationships.
Requirements
To satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences with a Specialization in Sociology, a student must complete a minimum of 120 semester credit hours, including 30 semester credit hours in sociology. The required courses are SOC 300, 301, 304, 305, 403, 405, and 499. The student, in consultation with his or her advisor, must select an additional 9 semester credit hours of Sociology courses at the 300/400 level. Additionally, the student must complete a minor or an 18-hour sequence of 300/400 level interdisciplinary electives, and SOC 203 as part of the Liberal Studies Requirement.
A minor in Sociology requires the successful completion of 18 semester credit hours. Specific course requirements are SOC 300 or 301; and 304 and 305; the remaining 9 semester hours must be selected in consultation with the student’s minor advisor from 300/400 level sociology courses. In addition, students must complete SOC 203 as part of the liberal studies.
