THOROBREDTRAK ACCOUNT FAQS

Can employers see my ThorobredTrak profile?

No — only you and certain Career Center staff members may view the information in your profile.

What is the point of providing all this information?

All student profiles are kept in a database, which the Career Center may use to identify and inform students with particular backgrounds and employment preferences. If you are a junior interested in engineering, for example, we can use your profile data to let you know about an internship opportunity that might interest you.

How do I change the information in my profile?

Simply select the Registration/User Profile option from the Main Menu page after logging on to your account. From here you can change any info in your profile.

What if I forget my ThorobredTrak login?

Do not attempt to create a new account!

Simply click on the Forgot Password link below the login fields on the ThorobredTrak page, or call the Placement Office help during business hours at 597-5792, or e-mail  vshavers@gwmail.kysu.edu

What Types of Jobs are on ThorobredTrak?

Employers who come to Kentucky State University are generally looking for seniors who can fill entry-level positions or for students who can work as summer associates or interns. Sophomores and Freshman may be considered for summer positions, but it is rare for freshmen to be competitive.

UPLOADING A RESUME, COVER LETTER, OR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT TO YOUR THOROBREDTRAK ACCOUNT

What Does "Uploading" Mean?

Before you can submit your resume to an employer listed in ThorobredTrak, you must first upload it into the system. You will take an electronic word-processed version of your resume (located on your hard drive, desktop or diskette) and convert it into a .pdf graphics file. The ThorobredTrak software will convert your file for you, all you have to do is tell the software where your file is.

There are three types of documents an employer may request: a resume, a cover letter, and an unofficial transcript. When reviewing the detailed position descriptions (see the page, Searching for Opportunities on ThorobredTrak) it is important that you note which three of these documents the employer needs, so that you can have them ready for uploading.

NOTE: Uploading a resume, cover letter, or unofficial transcript to your ThorobredTrak account does NOT mean that employers can view them! You must submit documents to specific employers before they can be viewed.

Preparing Your Documents

It is important that you prepare your resume (and cover letter, if necessary) carefully before uploading it and submitting it to an employer. Poorly written resumes will not get you very far. Be sure to take advantage of the Career Center's many resources (including personalized counseling, drop-in hour, and workshops) when working on these crucial elements of your application. Here are some quick guidelines:

RESUME: Should not exceed one 8.5 by 11 inch page . Margins should be no less than 0.5 inch . Stick to basic fonts . Include information on Education, Experience/Employment History, Activities, and Skills & Interests . If you are a senior omit high school info.

COVER LETTER: Should not exceed one 8.5 by 11 inch page. Margins should be no less than 0.5 inch. Stick to basic fonts. Address to person listed as contact in MonsterTrak detailed job description; never use "Dear Sir/Madam" or "To Whom it May Concern". Don't rehash info that is on your resume; concentrate on showing off your knowledge of the industry, company, and job and relate your unique qualities and experiences to the position . Never use a generic cover letter; recruiters can spot them a mile off!

UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT: Type information from your official transcript (obtained from the Registrar's Office or ACES) into a word-processed document. Put your name and contact information at the top of the page, and then present each semester's classes in reverse chronological order; list course ID (e.g., BAA 93), title/description, and the grade you received. Include courses taken at other institutions and during summer session.

Uploading Documents to Your ThorobredTrak Account

Once your documents have been prepared and saved electronically you will be ready to upload them to your ThorobredTrak account. Follow these steps:

--Log on to your ThorobredTrak account.

--From the Main Menu page select the link that says Resumes.

--Click on the appropriate arrow in the upper left-hand corner depending on which document

— resume, cover letter, or unofficial transcript — you wish to upload.

--The next screen walks you through the upload process. When uploading a resume you will be given the choice to grant Monster permission to store your resume online and submit it to employers when you authorize them to do so. Clicking on the box in Step 1 is how you give permission should you want to do so. Because you may store up to 10 resumes online, Step 2 asks you to give your resume a name so that you can distinguish it from other resumes you may upload in the future. In Step 3 you click on the Browse button and find your resume file on your computer's desktop, hard drive, or disk drive. Then you click on the Upload button so that your file can be automatically converted into a .pdf file. (When uploading a cover letter or transcript, Steps 1 & 2 are omitted.)

--When the conversion is complete, you will be shown what your uploaded document looks like as a .pdf file. If it looks fine scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the Update button. On the next screen you will receive a confirmation message telling you that the file has been uploaded to your account. This means that you may now submit the document to an employer.

--If you do not wish to upload the previewed document, simply click on the Update/Replace

button. You will be returned to the document upload page.

NOTE: While you may upload up to 10 resumes to your ThorobredTrak account, you may only have one cover letter and one transcript uploaded at a time. To upload a new cover letter or transcript simply repeat the process described above. The new documents will replace the ones already uploaded.

Misrepresentation

If you falsify documents or misrepresent yourself to any employer, whether via our on campus programs or in your independent job search, the Career Center has the right to rescind your privileges to use our services or programs. Employers have the right to terminate your employment or withdraw a job offer for misrepresentation.
