Program Objectives  

  • Create a closer partnership between USDA and 1890 Institutions.
  • Attract more outstanding minority students to professional careers in agriculture, forestry, and related areas.
  • Upgrade the physical facilities on the campuses.
  • Broaden the research capabilities of the Institutions.
  • Strengthen the 1890 University and College faculties.
  • Enhance the competitiveness of agricultural sciences and the mission of USDA.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities of ALOs  

  • Provide expertise on USDA programs.
  • Coordinate USDA and 1890 programs and activities.
  • Student recruitment and career counseling.
  • Serve on local, state, and national committees and boards.
  • Provide teaching assistance.
  • Support outreach initiatives.
