Ronald Braden
Instructor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (1998); B.S., Tennessee State University; M.S., Grambling State University.
Coach Braden, as he is called by the Thorobred family, also serves as Golf Coach and Sports Information Director. Braden's golf team won the 14th National Minority College Golf Championship in 2000 held at the PGA Golf Club in Port. St. Lucie, Florida.
Before coming to Kentucky State, Ron was a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America (1985-87), and he has also held positions in Intercollegiate Athletics as Sports Information Director, Assistant Football/Head Football Coach and Head Baseball Coach at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee (1979-83). Assistant Baseball Coach at Tennessee State University in Nashville (1973-75) and Graduate Assistant Football Coach at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana (1976-77)
William Thomas Cockley
Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation/Director and Program Director for Exum Center, Division of Education and Human Services, (1992); B.S., East Stroudsburg State University; M.S., University of Maryland; Ph.D., Florida State University.
Dr. Cockley’s research interests have included the areas of ‘Athletic Governess’ at the university level, bio-mechanical analysis primarily in the sports of gymnastics and track and field, and sport/fitness facility development. Currently, Dr. Cockley is the Director and Head Coach of Gymkhana. The Gymkhana Troop has two progressive goals. The first is to harbor a nurturing inclusive environment for our KSU students. Students receive opportunities to develop leadership skills and most of all - team skills while being encouraged to live a healthy life style. The second is to function as ‘Ambassadors of Good Will’ to our community. The troopers attempt to strengthen community and University bonds while bringing the ‘Healthy-Living’ life style message to our community children.
Dr. Cockley teaches PHE 401 : Test and Measurements; PHE 421 : Organization and Administration;
PHE 330 : Exercise Physiology; PHE 323 : Principles of Physical Education.
Dr. Cockley taught and coached at University of Maryland, Jacksonville State University, and Florida State University before coming to Kentucky State University in 1992.
