The sports medicine team at Kentucky State University is made up of a staff of Certified Athletic Trainers and team Physicians from the University of Kentucky Sports Medicine department. The doctors from the University of Kentucky Sports medicine department provide medical coverage to KSU, the University of Kentucky, Morehead State University, and Georgetown College athletics. 

Certified Athletic Trainers are educated professionals who specialize in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries.

A head athletic trainer and a staff athletic trainer provide medical coverage to all varsity sports at KSU. Student workers who are interested in gaining hands-on experience working with the staff and team physicians are also utilized. The KSU athletic department includes 13 sports and approximately 150 athletes. Kentucky State has athletic training rooms at Alumni Stadium and the William Exum Center.
