January 15, 2007

The Thorobreds lost their second straight game as they fell at the hands of the Benedict College Tigers, 84-63. The Breds were led by Camron Browns 23 points. Kenny Jones was the only other Thorobred in double figures, with 14 points. The Breds shot 37% from the field and 46& from the free throw line. The Thorobreds return to the William Exum Center to face Morehouse College at 7:30pm on January 18th.


January 13, 2007

The Thorobred’s win streak was halted at five games as they were defeated by Paine College 93-80. Kenny Jones led all scorers with 22 points, along with 9 rebounds. Larry Williams added 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Daniel Hawkins had 11 points. After a strong start, the Thorobreds fell behind by 8 points at the half were never able to regain a lead. The Thorobreds travel to face Benedict College on January 15th.


January 8, 2007

Junior forward Kenny Jones was voted SIAC Player of the Week after he averaged 25.3 points, 13 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 1.7 blocks, and 1.3 assists in wins over Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Lane College.


January 6, 2007

The Thorobreds took their hot streak to three games as they were victorius over the Lane College Dragons 84-73, in a home SIAC contest. Kenny Jones carried the Thorobreds with a resounding 30 points and 18 rebounds. Larry Williams also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tony Johnson came off the bench to score 16 points. Danny Hawkins led the Thorobreds with 8 assists, along with 8 rebounds. The Breds are now 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.


  Januray 4, 2007

The Thorobreds continued their winning ways with a resounding 86-54 win at Clark-Atlanta University. The Thorobreds, who had four players in double figures, were led by Kenny Jones, who had 10 rebounds along with his season high 28 points. Tony Johnson came off the bench to score 21 points and grab 7 rebounds. Larry Williams and Danny Hawkins both scored 10 points, and Austin Rich led the Breds with 7 assists. After ending the first half with a 29-29 tie, the Breds scored 57 points in the second half while holding the Panthers to 7 field goals. The Breds are now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC.


Januray 2, 2007

The Thorobreds earned their first conference victory of the season with a road win over Morehouse College, 71-54. The Thorobreds were led by Larry Williams, who scored 25 points. Kenny Jones contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Danny Hawkins had 10 points along with 8 rebounds. The Thorobred’s record is now 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC.


December 2, 2006

The Thorobreds dropped their third game, in a row, as they fell to Benedict College by a score of 78-65.  The Thorobreds were led by Larry Williams’ 17 points. Williams added 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Danny Hawkins and Tony Johnson were the other Thorobreds in double figures, with 13 points each. Ronnie Todd led the Thorobreds with 7 rebounds. The Breds will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to face Morehouse College on January 2nd and Clark- Atlanta University of January 4th. The next home game for the Thorobreds will be on January 6th against the Dragons of Lane College.


November 30, 2006

The Thorobreds were finally able to return home after three road games, but weren’t able to come up with a win. The Thorobreds, who were down by 13 at halftime to Paine College , made a valiant comeback effort, but were never able to take control of the game. Kenny Jones led the Thorobreds with 25 points on 12 of 18 shooting. Larry Williams added 18 points and 7 rebounds. The final score was 69-59.


November 25, 2006

The Thorobreds never seemed to get hot, as they produced their lowest scoring output of the season, falling to Holy Family University 56-43 on day two of the R.L. Vaughan Classic. Larry Williams was the only Thorobred in double figures, scoring 14 points while bringing down 8 rebounds and blocking three shots. Kenny Jones scored 8 points and gathered 9 rebounds. The Thorobreds shot 26% from the field and 23% from three point range, both season lows. The Thorobreds will open their SIAC schedule with the Paine College Lions on November 30th, at 7:30pm in the William Exum Center.


Junior, Larry Williams was selected to the 2006 All- Classic Team. He averaged 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the R.L. Vaughan Classic, which was played at Elizabeth City State University. Williams had 34 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks while leading the Breds to a 87-81 victory over Elizabeth City State University. Williams followed that performance with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks against Holy Family University.  


November 24, 2006

On day one of the R.L. Vaughan Classic, the Thorobreds defeated the Elizabeth City State University Vikings 87-81. The Thorobreds were led by guard Larry Williams, who scored a career high 34 points on 12-19 shooting from the field, including 7-11 shooting from three point range. Along with his 34 points, Williams grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. Kenny Jones scored 17 points and garnered 7 rebounds along with 4 steals. Freshman point guard, Tony Johnson added 12 points while senior, Danny Hawkins led the Thorobreds with 8 rebounds. The Thorobreds were able to take advantage of their speed, scoring 26 fast break points, while the Vikings were not able to score any fast break points.


November 18, 2006

Breds open on the road with a win
The Thorobreds defeated Claflin University 64-53 to open the regular season with a 1-0 record. The Breds were led by Tony Johnson’s 15 points. Johnson also contributed 8 rebounds. Kenny Jones had a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Larry Williams chipped in with 13 points. The Thorobreds will take on Elizabeth City State University at 8:00pm on Nov. 24 and Holy Family University at 2:00pm on Nov. 25. Both Games will be held at Elizabeth City State University.


November 7, 2006

The Thorobreds stumbled against DI Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. After jumping out to a 9 point lead early in the game, the Hilltoppers came back to take a 13 point lead in to the half. The Thorobreds, who outrebounded the Hilltoppers 45-31, were ultimately done in by their 29 turnovers. The Breds were led by freshman Tony Johnson, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Larry Williams had 15 points and 5 rebounds while Kenny Jones contributed with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Thorobreds will host the 2006 Alumni Game in the William Exum Center on November 11th at 6:00pm before traveling to Claflin University on November 18th for their first game on the regular season.


November 4, 2006

Thorobreds Win at Wilberforce University

After three weeks of practice, the Thorobreds were finally able to get on the court as they traveled to Wilberforce University to compete in their first exhibition game of the season. The Thorobred got off to a quick start, leading by 13 at the half. The Wilberforce Bulldogs were able to tie the score late in the second half before the Thorobreds pulled away for an 85-81 victory. The Thorobreds were led by Kenny Jones’ 22 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Tony Johnson scored 22 points and Larry Williams followed with 13 points. Danny Hawkins chipped in with a strong 10 rebounds. The Thorobreds shot an impressive 53% from the floor and 52% from three point range, while holding the Bulldogs to 27% shooting from three point range.

KSU Player’s Earn SIAC Preseason Honors

Kenny Jones has been named to the 2006-2007 Men's Preseason All Conference Basketball Team.   K. Jones a 6-6, 245, JR, forward from Long Island, NY lead the Thorobreds in scoring 13.7ppg, rebounding 7.8rpg and shooting percentage at .600 last season.

On November 11th, 2006 at 6:00pm in The William Exum Center, The Kentucky State University Men’s Basketball team will be hosting The 2006 Alumni Game . The Alumni Team includes former members of the Kentucky State University Men’s Basketball Team. Members of the 2001 SIAC Championship Team will be honored at this event.

The Thorobreds add a new assistant to its staff. Anthony (AJ) Summers, a University of Kentucky Graduate and former staff member for the Wildcats under coach Tubby Smith, will help with coaching duties.

Thorobreds put in work with Habitat For Humanity

On Saturday, September 16th, the Kentucky State University Men's Basketball Team, did volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County. Ann Smith, a secretary at a local elementary school, was ecstatic about the added "horsepower". When asked about the help from the team, she said, "This is like a dream come true. I've never won the lottery but this is better than winning it. I still can't believe it's happening."
