Assistant Coach
Anthony "AJ" Summers
Anthony “AJ” Summers will be entering his second season as a Thorobred assistant coach. Coach Summers will assist in scouting, recruiting, as well as on court instruction.
From 1996-2001 Coach Summers worked with the Men’s Basketball program at the University of Kentucky. During these five years Summers gained valuable knowledge working for Coach Rick Pitino and Coach Tubby Smith. The highlight of his 5 years at UK was winning the National Championship in 1998 during Coach Smith’s first season. After the 2000-2001 season, Summers made a difficult decision to leave UK and pursue an opportunity to become an entrepreneur. Along with his business partners, Summers launched a food distribution company specializing in snack food products serving Louisville, Southern Indiana, and most of Central Kentucky.
With his business up and running, Summers still had basketball in his blood. Coach Summers is very excited to be back in the game of basketball working at Kentucky State University and working for a man with the integrity and the work ethic of Coach Tom Patterson.
Aside from winning the National Title in 1998, being chosen as a member of the support staff by USA Basketball for the 2000 National Team Trials was the biggest highlight of his basketball career.
