Circulations area of the Blazer Library Public Services handles all circulating materials, shelving, opening, and closing of the Library. Basically, it controls the movement of both objects and humans, and all that is in between. The Circulation area also houses the Course Reserve materials, DVD/VHS players, and ILL Forms. For coherency, below are some of the activities of the Circulation Area.

Activities of the Circulation area include:

Course Reserves- Located behind the counter are materials that Professors put on hold for students usage. They are support materials for the class. Items held in this section include: books, articles, class/lecture notes, old test, and videos. Copyright law prevents Blazer Library from putting current text books for classes on reserve. Professors wishing to put materials on hold must fill out the form located behind the circulation counter.

Music Listening Lab CD’s and Headphones- This is located in the cabinet behind the Circulation Counter. These materials are available for designated Faculty and Staff and Music Majors. The Lab itself is located in the Periodicals Section of the Library. These materials are to be used in the Music Listening Lab.

Checking Materials in and out/Sensitizing and Desensitizing- There is a quick Procedure Manual located behind the Circulation counter for step by step instructions. Materials being checked out must be desensitized before leaving the library or the alarm will sound. Material that has been checked in must be sensitized before being shelved again.

Checking/Clearing book drop bins- (inside and out). Both the inside and outside bins are checked daily at the end of the evening. The books are collected, discharged, sensitized, and put on the cart for shelving.

Shelving- Shelving is done daily. Books that have been discharged and sensitizing are sorted on a cart before being shelved.

Desk Duty- The desk duties include checking out library material to patrons, entering and updating information into the system, assisting patron’s in locating materials in the library, collection of fines from the patrons for lost or late material, answering questions with regards to the library as well as assisting patrons with problems with the copier/printer.

Statistic Sheet Update- Each time a library function or task has been completed it is logged onto the statistic sheet. For example, assisting a patron in finding a book, helping with the printer/copier, or clearing graduates would be logged into the sheet.

New Student Application- located behind the circulation counter. They are to be filled out by the students and loaded into Voyager by a Library Staff.

Applications accuracy of new patrons- It is the duty of the Circulation Coordinator to check the accuracy of Patron applications. To insure it was properly filled out and properly submitted in Voyager. At the discretion of the Coordinator Circulation Staff could at times be asked to perform this duty.

Patron Count- The patron count is recorded daily at the closing of each day. The patron count is recorded on the log sheet located on the cabinet behind Circulation Desk.

Senior Clearance- Graduating seniors are required to be cleared by the library to insure they do not have any outstanding fines. A graduate will bring in a sheet to be signed showing that they do not have a fine or lost material from the library. This information can be obtained by looking in Voyager. Check the student by last name, social security number, and student ID. It is important to check all three ways to insure there is not more than one account. Once a student is cleared a note is placed on the student’s Voyager account stating that the student has been cleared for graduation. (See Circulation Quick Tips Manual).

Courtesy Notice- Are sent out to Faculty and Staff, who have neglected to return library materials at the end of the semester. It serves as a reminder that they should return the library’s material as soon as possible to avoid charges being placed on their account.

Overdue Notice- Are sent out to Undergraduate/Graduate/Community Borrowers who have exceeded the date of the Library material in their procession. It serves as a reminder to them that they need to return the library materials, and that they are accruing a fine of .05 cents per day until the material is returned.

Fine Fee Notice- Are sent out alerting Faculty/Staff/Undergraduates/Graduate/Community Borrowers of how much their actual fine is. Faculty and Staff are only charged for materials they have lost or damaged, they do not accumulate a .05 a day fine. However, if materials are lost or not returned the price of processing and replacement are mailed out to Faculty and Staff.

Inter Library Loan Forms- are located at the Circulation Counter. They are to be completed and submitted to the ILL Librarian for processing. There is also a link on the library’s website for Faculty and Staff to submit their request. You must have a student or university ID to use the ILL service. This service is not offered to community borrowers.
