Summer Transportation Institute
Funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
The Summer Transportation Institute Program (STI) is designed to stimulate and sustain interest in transportation at the secondary education level in order to increase the numbers who choose a career in the transportation industry. The Institute exposes secondary students to and allows them to participate in a series of academic and practical experiences designed to motivate them in mathematics, science and technological studies. STI students are introduced to social, economic, and environmental impact of transportation. Students use the math and technology in the design and construction of dragsters and bridges. Students write papers on the history of transportation in Kentucky.
STI students become aware of occupation and career opportunities via classroom presentations made by experts in the transportation industry and hands-on activities experienced during field trips. rachael.steward@kysu.edu
