M. Emilia Ramirez is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Kentucky State University, in the Department of Public Administration, Social Work, and Criminal Justice. Before teaching, she worked as the program associate for the ACLU of Kentucky, focusing on criminal justice reform, youth rights, and immigrant issues. She chaired the Kentucky Voting Rights Coalition and lobbied against felony disenfranchisement, an issue she is still very passionate about. Her article, Barred from the Polls: Felony Disenfranchisement in the Bluegrass, was published in the Northern Kentucky Law Review in 2008. She is a member of the Advocacy Committee of the Hispanic/Latino Coalition of Louisville and a board member of the ACLU of Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Louisville with the first dual MSSW and JD in 2006.
