Launched in 2005 after a six year development phase, the Bachelor of Science in Applied Information Technology degree at Kentucky State University is among the top academic choices in computer technology. Applied Information Technology majors may currently choose from the following two degree options: Network Engineering or Web Engineering. The program connects goals and desires with knowledge and abilities producing outcomes needed to succeed in today's technology-based careers as well as graduate study.
A graduate would be required to exhibit advanced knowledge of enterprise networks. This includes installing, designing/configuring, managing, analyzing, troubleshooting and securing local and wide area networks for enterprise organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes. As well, graduates will be able to prove their expertise in designing, implementing and securing the infrastructure for business solutions based on, but not limited to, the Microsoft Windows platform. Graduates would understand additional topics such as security, converged networks, quality of service, virtual private networks and broadband technologies. Wireless LAN knowledge is also required that would indicate significant knowledge of relevant factors involved in designing, deploying and maintaining WLAN solutions throughout or between buildings, without the limitations of wires or cables.
Graduates will possess appropriate levels of knowledge in enterprise telephony design. This includes understanding of the breadth of technical issues surrounding the design of Voice over Data networks and the ability to explain a methodology that brings order to approaching the problems faced by planners and designers. Students will actively participate in the assessment of the current networks, methodologies for implementing Voice over Data networks, and how to design sustainable and appropriate implementations. Students should be capable of obtaining CCNA after sophomore year and CCNP and MCSE upon graduation.
We strongly support articulation agreement development. Articulation agreements exist with Kentucky Community and Technical College (KCTCS) system. Certain KCTCS graduates can earn the B.S. in Applied Information Technology at Kentucky State University after completing only two academic years beyond their information technology related KCTCS degree. Other agreements exist or can be developed and we value technical certifications, too.
