Dr. Amadife is the Chair of the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of Political Science. Prior to this position, he taught at Shaw University, Raleigh, NC, and the University of Rhode Island where he was Interim Director of African and Afro-American Studies Program. His research and teaching interests include International Organizations, Comparative Government, Development, Third World Issues, Democratization, and American Foreign Policy Towards Africa. His scholarly publications include, Pre-Theories and of Foreign Policy Making, University Press of America, MD (1999); “Liberalization and Democratization in Nigeria: The International and Domestic Challenge.” Journal of Black Studies, vol. 29, no. 5, May 1999, pp. 619-645; Co-author of "Africa’s Political Boundaries: Colonial Cartography, The OAU, and the Advisability of Ethno-National Adjustment.” International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society, Vol. 6, 4 (Summer 1993). A frequent participant at professional conferences at regional and national level, Dr. Amadife initiated the Annual Southern Interdisciplinary Roundtable on African Studies (SIRAS) at Kentucky State University which he is also the Director.


Dr. Janice Lynn Bowers Lynn Bowers

Assistant Professor of Psychology (2005); B.A., Transylvania University; MPA, Kentucky State University; M.A., Spalding University; MSW, University of Kentucky; Ph.D., University of Kentucky. 

Before joining the faculty in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Kentucky State University, Dr. Bowers taught in the psychology program at Western Carolina University as well as in the graduate program in counseling at Lindsey Wilson College and the Public Administration Program at KSU. She is licensed by the Professional Boards of Psychology and Social Work and by the Department of Education. She has 20 years of experience in mental health and education and teaches courses in psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and abnormal behavior. She served Frankfort four terms as City Commissioner and 3 terms as Mayor Pro Tem and her research interest is in psychology as it relates to political behavior and attitude. She believes that government at its best when citizens involve themselves in the process.

Dr. Tierra FreemanDr. Tierra M. Freeman

Assistant Professor, Psychology Program Coordinator, Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences (2008); B.A., University of Kentucky; M.A., Towson University; Ph.D., University of Kentucky. Curriculum Vita

Dr. Freeman began her tenure track teaching career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she taught undergraduate and graduate child development, lifespan human development, and introduction to graduate research. She has also taught psychology and education courses at the University of Kentucky, Lexington Community College, and Sullivan University, as an adjunct during her doctoral studies. She currently teaches Introduction to Psychology, Statistics for the Behavioral & Social Sciences, Theories & Methods of Human Development, History & Systems of Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and coordinates the Psychology Practicum experience. Dr. Freeman's area of research focuses on the social contextual nature of students' academic achievement and motivation. Her most recent publication focused on examining the relationship between college students' resiliency and the emotional expression of anger.

Michael O. Kasongo Michael O. Kasongo

Associate Professor of History (1994);B.S., University of Congo; M.Th., Free University of Congo School of Theology; M.A., University of Kentucky; Ph.D., University of Kentucky. Summary Biography

He has taught classes in world and western civilizations, in addition to upper level courses in American and European History. Before coming to Kentucky State University, Dr. Kasongo taught at West Virginia State College, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Fairmont State College, and University of Virginia. Besides a numerous articles and papers on diplomatic, cultural, religious, and international issues, Dr. Kasongo published a book on the History of the Methodist Church in Congo (University press of America, 1998). Dr. Kasongo has been active in the Kentucky conference of the United Methodist Church, and also serves as Community representative for International Exchange Students in local high schools.

Patricia A. Pearson Dr. Patricia Annette Pearson

Professor of History (1984); B.A., Tennessee State University; M.S., Tennessee State University; Ph.D., University of Kentucky 

Dr. Pearson, the 1998 Distinguished Professor at Kentucky State University, earned her Ph.D. in history from the University of Kentucky in 1984. She became a member of the Kentucky State University Faculty almost 29 years ago and today is a tenured, full professor of History. She also earned both her B.A. and M.S. degrees in history at Tennessee State University, 1970 and 1972, respectively. She teaches a variety of undergraduate courses ranging from African/African American History to Kentucky History. Her research interests include race and gender, an area in which she has written a number of historical essays. A long and impressive list of awards, fellowships, honors, and activities accompany her career development. She is active in church, sorority, civic, and community affairs.

Alvin M. Seals Professor Alvin M.Seals

Associate Professor of Sociology (1968);B.A., Philander Smith College; M.A., University of Kentucky

Professor Seals teaches Principles of Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Race and Ethnic Relations and other Sociology classes. Professor Seals is a specialist in Race Relations having lectured and directed seminars across the state of Kentucky on the subject. Marva Y. Strickland-Hill

Marva Strickland Hill’s teaching areas are American Government & Politics, Urban Politics, African Politics, International Relations, Constitutional Law & Civil Liberties. She has been acknowledged for excellence as a distinguished educator in "Who's Who Among American Teachers." Robert W. Lancaster, Ph.D.

Dr. Lancaster received his BA, MA and Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky; he has also been a Certified General Appraiser for almost 30 years. His primary teaching and research interests center on sustainability theory (urban sustainability to sustainable urban design), critical theory and power, as well as ‘green’ appraisal valuation techniques and other real estate and zoning issues, across both the United States and Canada. He has published and lectured internationally on sustainability as policy, and he is currently collaborating on a book titled Getting From Here to There: the Politics of Urban Sustainability in North America. Dr. Lancaster has served on a number of unit and university committees, both appointed and elected, and he is a former Faculty Senate President.
