Careers for English Majors
There are many career fields that either require or prefer the abilities and skills an English Major possesses. These include: editing, publishing, and proofreading for book publishers, periodical publications, and private companies; technical writing in a variety of fields; a variety of professional writing positions; a variety of positions involving research; a variety of positions within libraries; tutoring; teaching; journalism; a variety of positions in non-print media; public relations; human resources; fund-raising; and advertizing. Any career that requires excellent written and verbal communications skills, the ability to interpret and analyze the written or spoken word, research skills, or interpersonal relations, is a career that an English major may be qualified for. In addition to KSU’s Office of Counseling and Placement, located in suite 241 ASB, your academic advisor can assist you in preparing for the job market.
