Phyllis Rogers RN

 

Phyllis Rogers is a Registered Nurse (RN), working as a Research Assistant in Dr. Avinash Topè’s group in the Division of Animal and Food Science, CAFSSS. She assists with clinical and anthropometric screenings for the obesity linked risk for Metabolic syndrome (MetS) in young adults, especially those attending KSU and in performing diet recalls with the participants.

MetS comprises increased risk for diabetes, high abdominal obesity, high blood pressure and lipid imbalance, collectively indicating increased risk for cardiovascular disease. In addition, she also assists in performing various lab analyses, especially in the analysis of urinary levels of 8-hydroxy-2’guanosine (8-OHdG). She trains the Undergraduate and other students performing the SHAPE-UP screenings. She earned her BS in Nursing in 1971, a Teaching Certification from Kentucky State University in 1989 and worked as a school nurse in Franklin County School District in Frankfort for 10years. She also has a degree in Studio Art.

Phyllis also enjoys teaching and performing folk dances, painting, and handcrafts. Phyllis is married to Peter. They have two grown children and three grandchildren with whom she enjoys a great deal of time.
