Mr. Louie Rivers Jr. joined Kentucky State University in December 1994 and currently serves as the Project Manager for the Small Farmer Outreach Training and Technical Assistance Program. As Project Manager, he is responsible for providing supervision for program staff, developing outreach concepts, and implementing programs for small and limited resource farmers across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
A key component of this work is the Annual Small Limited Resource Minority Farmers conference. The conference provides an opportunity for farmers to hear about the latest research findings that might improve their operations and opportunities for networking with other farmers who may be facing similar problems.
Mr. Rivers served as a County Extension Agent for two-years, providing educational and technical assistance to limited resource and small farmers in a six County area in Georgia and South Carolina.
Prior to working in extension Mr. Rivers retired from the United States Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in October 1992. He received a bachelors of science degree in Animal Husbandry from South Carolina State College and a masters of science degree in Dairy Science from the University of Florida.
He owns and operates a family farm in Bamberg County, South Carolina.
