Glenn E. (Rickey) Miller Jr.

Glenn E. (Rickey) Miller Jr. has served as the Small Farm Assistant in Breckinridge County since June 1988. Miller began his career assisting producers with basic production concepts of cattle, rabbits, tobacco, peppers, swine, equine, hay, and grain.

Over the years, the small farm program in Breckinridge County has evolved from the basic concepts of these programs to much more advanced applications including master cattleman, advanced master cattleman, advanced grazing schools, master horseman, herd health management, and Annie’s Project. Some of these programs have developed into advanced Extension related programs such as CPH 45, Mag 60, and bred heifer sales, private treaty sales (bred heifer/cow sales and pedigreed bull sales).

The tobacco buyout program resulted in Ag Development funds available to local producers enabling them to improve agricultural practices and start new diversification enterprises. One highlight is the Breckinridge County Farmers Market which began in 1999 with a few vendors selling produce in the Extension Office parking lot. In July 2011, these same vendors were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony of a new $389,000 farmers market and educational facility located on extension property. This new facility was funded in part, by Ag Development grant funds.
