Residence Hall Access

Student Services Home

Residential Network (ResNet) is a computer network service provided by Information Technology.  (IT) ResNet provides all Residence Hall students with high speed Internet and network access, local telephone service, and basic cable television.

TO GET INTERNET CONNECTION IN YOUR RESIDENCE HALL ROOM, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

  1. You must have a computer or laptop with these minimum requirements:

    • Operating system: Windows (98 or higher) or Mac OSX
    • Speed/Processor: Pentium 300 MHz or higher
    • Memory: 128 MB RAM
    • Hard Drive: 500 MB
    • Network Adapter:
                 PCs: Ethernet card 10/100 (type)
                 Laptops: PCMIA 10/100 (type).
    • Ethernet cable:
                Length of cable: 7 – 15ft 
                Ethernet cable: RJ45 
                Male to Male (end connections)

NOTE IT employees are not authorized to install your Ethernet card

  1. Complete the KSU on-line computer registration form. You need to know the Residence Hall you are staying in, your room number, internet jack number, and your  MAC address. When you get to campus, go to www.kysu.edu, click on KSU Student, then select ResNet, then select Register Your Computer.


  2. You are required to have a functioning current version of anti-virus software on your PC or laptop. If you do not have a functioning current version of anti-virus software, bring a blank CD-R to the IT Department, ASB Suite 379. IT will provide current KSU students with anti-virus software or you can download the software from the ResNet site. When you get to campus, go to www.kysu.edu , click on KSU Student, then select ResNet, then select Computer Downloads. PCs or Laptops that do not have anti-virus software will be removed from the network.

Ethernet cables can be purchased in the KSU bookstore.

Network Cards can be pruchased at the below places:

Frankfort Wal-Mart and Office Depot or Lexington Best Buy, Comp USA.
