Vehicle Registration

All faculty/staff (including temporary staff, food service & Bookstore staff, GSC & Xerox), students (this includes students attending evening, Saturday & on-line classes & graduate assistants) and visitors with university business who parks a motor vehicle on property owned or controlled by the university are required to display a Kentucky State University parking permit or pass, regardless of the time of day you park on campus. Exceptions to this policy may include athletic games, special events, etc.

 

HOW TO REGISTER A VEHICLE:
  • The on-line application can be completed on or off campus beginning July 1st of each year.
  • The parking permit application is available on-line at www.kysu.edu. On the main page select the University Police tab, then parking permits and information, then online form. Once the form has been completed, make sure to hit the submit button at the bottom of the page. The acknowledgement page will follow stating the information has been received.
  • The permit can be picked up for faculty/staff beginning the first Monday in July until the first day of student registration.
  • The pick-up for permits for all students begins the first day of fall or spring student registration.
  • Exception: For athletes, band members and others, who have to arrive on campus at the beginning of August, may pick-up their permit the day of arrival.
  • The hours for parking are from 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Parking permit pick up hours are 10am – 3pm Monday through Friday.


NOTE: All parking permits should be purchased before the 1st day of class. There will be a two week grace period for NO VALID PARKING PERMIT DISPLAYED; all other violations will be ticketed accordingly on the 1st day of class. Ticketing for NO VALID PARKING PERMIT DISPLAYED violation will begin on the 1st Monday in September.

The following information must be presented when registering your vehicle(s)

Faculty/staff
1. Current, valid KSU Employee ID
2. Your valid driver license
3. Your current vehicle registration
4. Proof of your current auto insurance
5. If applicable your current handicap registration (the registration must be in your name)

 

On-campus Students
1. Current, valid KSU Student ID
2. Proof of your current dorm assignment
3. Your valid driver license
4. Your current vehicle registration
5. Proof of your current auto insurance
6. If applicable your current handicap registration (the registration must be in your name)


Off-campus / Weekend Students
1. Current, valid KSU ID
2. Your valid driver license
3. Your current vehicle registration
4. Proof of your current auto insurance
5. If applicable your current handicap registration (the registration must be in your name)


On-line Students
1. Current, valid KSU ID
2. Your current class schedule to show on-line classes only
3. Your valid driver license
4. Your current vehicle registration
5. Proof of your current auto insurance
6. If applicable your current handicap registration (the registration must be in your name)

Expiration
All parking permits expire July 31st of each year except Dorm permits which expire at the end of each semester. 

State Handicap Permits
If you have a state handicap permit, you must show the permit and produce the registration for the handicap permit, when registering for your university parking permit. The handicap registration must be in your name Pursuant to Kentucky Revised Statutes 186.042.

 

When displaying a State Handicap Permit, the university permit must be placed in front of the handicap permit. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to ensure the permit is properly displayed.

One Week Pass Temporary Permit
A one week pass is given to new faculty/staff and students who do not have the required documentation. If you are not able to produce the information it may be faxed to the attention of the Parking Division at (502-597-5827). No Exceptions or extensions will be granted.

 

Temporary Faculty/Staff & Student Permit
The temporary permit is for any faculty/staff or student who has a current parking permit and has forgotten their permit for the day they park on campus. A KSU ID must be shown and the current permit will be verified. The charge is $1 per day. All permit holders have a maximum of (5) free days are per semester. The fee for the temporary pass must be paid for at time of issuance (cash only).

Temporary Non-Employee (this includes temporary agencies or all deemed temporary faculty/staff)
The temporary employee must provide the parking office with the length of time on employment. The fee is $10 per month and must be paid at the Bursar’s office before issuance of the permit.

Permit Placement
To be valid, the parking permit must be displayed from the rear view mirror and be clearly visible and facing outward. Vehicles with parking permits that are not displayed in accordance with the regulations are subject to being ticketed.

Motorcycles must have an adhesive permit; the permit must be affixed in the best place on your motorcycle and clearly displayed.

A parking permit is not considered valid unless it is properly displayed on the vehicle.

Outstanding Parking Tickets
Faculty/staff and students who have outstanding parking fines will not be eligible to receive a current year parking permit until all fines have been paid.

How to pay for a Parking Permit
Faculty/staff who choose to pay for their permit in advance must pay for the permit at the Bursar’s office first before coming to the parking office and bring the receipt to show proof of purchase. Faculty/staff who choose to use payroll deduction can fill out the necessary form at the parking office.

Any faculty/staff who receives a Reserved parking permit must be on the approved list.

Any student can prepay for their permit at the Bursar’s office.

 

All parking permit fees will be added to your university account.

 

Reimbursements
If a student withdraws within the first 15 days of class in either the Fall or Spring semester and returns his or her permit, a full refund, less $5, will be made. No refunds will be offered to students after the 15 days. Exceptions: If the fall semester has been complete and the student does not return in the spring there is no refund for the parking permit.

 

If a faculty/staff member terminates employment from the university prior to May 1st and returns his or her permit, a prorated amount will be refunded if the permit has been paid in full (less the $5 fee).

All outstanding parking violations must be paid before a refund will be issued.

Theft or loss of a Permit
The theft or loss of a parking permit should be reported to the Parking Office immediately. After a report has been filed, the permit will be replaced for $20; the second time a permit is reported lost or stolen, it can be replaced for $40.

Possession or use of a lost/stolen permit will result in a fine, impoundment of vehicle and or loss of parking privileges. Recovered lost or stolen permits should be returned to the Parking Office Immediately.

Fraudulent Registration
Fraudulent registration of a motor vehicle may result in a $100 assessment and the revocation of a person’s permit privileges for the remainder of the academic period. The use or possession of a permit that was lost, stolen, altered or those purchased from any source other than the University Parking Office is considered fraudulent registration.
